HOW I STARTED FINGER KNITTING
Back in 2019, I mentioned to my husband, Matthew, that I would love to try and make a chunky blanket after watching a video on it. Matthew always loves helping me find a new hobby to do (since I don’t have many), so remembering that I mentioned something about knitting, for my birthday he got me a… knitting book. I guess you can say I wasn’t exactly over the moon about my birthday gift. Fortunately, he had another part of the gift; go to Hobby Lobby (one of my favorite places to shop!) to get the supplies for knitting. I knew Hobby Lobby had the chunky yarn I needed to make a blanket, so I asked if it would be okay to get that yarn as my knitting supplies. Matthew was all for it!
TURNING A FUN HOBBY INTO A BUSINESS
I made my first blanket, and before I knew it I was making them as gifts. When I realized how much everyone loved them, I decided to start my business, “Sab’s Blankets”! I started this business at just the right time, in the middle of fall and heading towards Christmas. So many people were looking to buy blankets as Christmas gifts, which landed me my first few customers!
THE BEGINNING OF STUFFIES
I added pillows to the collection in 2021! As I made pillows, I couldn’t stop thinking about how they looked like an octopus when I was halfway through the making process. That got me thinking… “hmmmm, I wonder if I could actually make an octopus?”. I made a lot of octopuses before I was finally able to “master” it, but I still wasn’t confident enough to launch it and share it with my followers yet. It wasn’t until my sister asked me if I could try and make a stuffed animal bee for her. I gave it a try and it came out great on the first try! That built my confidence to finally introduce stuffies to the Sab’s Blankets store in November 2021. Since then, I have been creating and adding new stuffed animals to the collection!
SWITCHING MY BUSINESS NAME TO SAB’S STUFFIES!
2022 was the year my business blossomed, thanks to the stuffies! I had a full year of selling stuffies under my belt before I realized that stuffies were the direction my business was heading. “Sab’s Blankets” no longer made sense for a business name (not just because the stuffies were my best sellers, but I often got asked if my stuffies turned in to blankets since my business name was “Sab’s Blankets! Now that is an idea!)
A LITTLE ABOUT ME!
Hi, I’m Sabrina-Rose! I was born and raised on Long Island, New York with my 5 siblings. Although I grew up right next to the beach, I never really enjoyed it! I don’t like the heat (I’m a fall girl through and through!), I’m a terrible swimmer (even though I took swimming lessons at the bay), and I’m not a fan of the sand. I kept busy running cross country and track in middle and high school. My main events in track were race walking and pole vaulting… I loved the competition! I continued running cross country in college in Pennsylvania and that is where I met my husband! I graduated in 2018 with a bachelors degree in business administration and then got married exactly one week later. We now have two little ones who keep me busy during the day! But we very much enjoy family time, going on walks, going to church, and eating at Chick-Fil-A. When I’m not working on my business, you can find me in the kitchen cooking and baking, and gardening outside in the spring and summer!
